Heavenly Rewards

a quasi-devotional

by sally bishai

So. There I was, just dreaming the day away, and pondering over a conversation I had with a friend; she was going on about how one great reward of the Christian life is "crowns when we get to heaven." I kept thinking about this, and knew that, in keeping with the obvious metaphor, the rewards would just have to be something precious.

I cast about, in the hope of thinking up anything on this earth that would matter to me in the next life. Then I decided that it could be something "beyond our wildest imagination," which is probably and most likely true.

But my mind was still thinking about corporeal things. And that was my big mistake. "Ok, so we produce fruit in our Christian lives so we can "lay up treasure in heaven," I thought, but then realised that no treasure (even a new Mercedes Roadster) could really be half as cool as Jesus is, and getting to hang out with Him FOREVER.

But then, my bretheren, I had the coolest thought of all; what if these rewards add up to how physically (I know! We won't have physical bodies there..) CLOSE we get to sit next to Him?

Don't know about you lot, but I can't think of any more precious reward--or rewarding experience.

Bottom line?

Don't lose heart! If you're a Christian, you get to have JC by your side 24/7, every day of the year! That's better than tech support! That's better than Wal-Mart! God bless you, and remember to keep your eyes on the Prize. :)

Love in Christ,
